I would like to use this blog in a casual, natural way to describe what is happening in the Natural Bath and Body world. So much has happened in the twenty years that we here at Jane Inc. have been in business. Small companies that started out small and with a mission in mind have been swallowed up by corporate giants and are now made on huge production lines using typical chemical manufacture – just like anything other mass-made product. They are no longer the carefully compounded artisanal products they once were. These formerly artisanal companies include Burt’s Bees (Clorox), Origins (Estee Lauder), Aveda (Estee Lauder), Mrs. Meyers Cleaning (S.C. Johnson), Altoids (Mars Inc.), Tom’s of Maine (Colgate-Palmolive), The Art of Shaving (Proctor & Gamble).. This is not to say that these products are bad or dangerous, what I am saying here is they are just like anything else, conceived in a lab, filled with chemicals and produced in a factory. What we are trying to do here at Jane Inc. is to offer a handmade and artisanal product, made in small batches in the USA of natural ingredients. So the next time you pull a product off the shelf – read the label - you may be in for a surprise.
